IUSO hosted its inaugural ‘Focus on your Future…I can see Clearly Now’ summer program on July 21-22, 2014

IU School of Optometry was proud to host 13 junior and senior high school students during its inaugural ‘Focus on your Future…I can see Clearly Now’ summer program on July 21-22, 2014. The School’s new free summer program focuses on providing in-depth information about Optometry as a potential career to underrepresented minorities and first-generation high school students interested in attending college in a pre-health or science-related major.

The inaugural two-day program hosted 13 participants from Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio as well as two OD student counselors. Weekend activities consisted of two keynote speakers, a pre-clinic experience, demonstrations and research opportunities, a campus tour, and a clinic tour including eye exams for each participant. Joe Boes, coordinator for the program, stated, “The students really found the program interesting and worthwhile. Their only suggestion was to have it begin on a Sunday. Hence, next summer the program’s dates will be July 19-21, 2015.”
