The IU School of Optometry Bike Club welcomes bike enthusiasts to join us. We ride for fun and, at three events per year, to raise funds for charity and to talk up the optometry school. We also have weekly rides in and around Bloomington. Optometry and Optician/Technician students as well as faculty and staff are welcome to join. You will need a serviceable bicycle for this club, but you do not need to be an experienced cyclist.
We had a blast riding in the 60K Coach Hep Challenge (a charity to fund research into the type of brain cancer that killed Indiana University’s beloved football coach). In mid-summer we raised money for the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure in Indianapolis. We also took in the fall foliage while touring southern Indiana’s scenic back roads on the Hilly Hundred bike tour, which is America’s longest-running annual bike ride. This local tour benefits nearby charities and has been called the “Best Overall Ride” by Bicycling Magazine.
If you’d like to join us for a ride, or just want further information, please contact Jeff Perotti (clinical faculty) at firstname.lastname@example.org or Nick Port (research faculty) at email@example.com to be included on our mailing list.
