Biography

Dr. Brooks is a professor emeritus of optometry. He retired from teaching in December 2019. 

Before coming to Indiana University, Dr. Brooks practiced optometry in southern Indiana. He then spent two years as guest lecturer at the Höheren Fachschule für Augenoptik in Cologne, Germany, where he taught refraction and contact lenses.

Dr. Brooks taught in the areas of geometric and ophthalmic optics. He is probably best known for his book, System for Ophthalmic Dispensing, which is co-authored with Dr. Irvin Borish. Dr. Brooks has written other books, including Essentials of Ophthalmic Lens Finishing and Understanding Lens Surfacing. He is founder and president of FCO International (the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists), with chapters in schools and colleges of optometry throughout the United States.
